Still Lives pt. II

I'm coming back to my previous post, because after months of looking, I found a way to do the same, but with 2n+1 x 2n+1 squares. I'm not showing you how because it is really easy. You pretty much just put four blocks in a 9 x 9 square.

The only reason I just post about it now is because I haven't been doing anything life-related for months. Hopefully I'll pick it up again now.

Still Lives

First I'm going to say something more about the reaction I found last time. It is not possible to use the garbage to destroy another glider, which means you'll have to wait a lot longer to be able to destroy a glider at that side of the oscillator. It's easy to use 4 p60 (I think) gliderguns, put them to all four directions and destroy all the gliders using just one of those p12 oscillators (I forgot the name and I'm to lazy to look it up).

To the point now, I found out you can make squares and stabilize them using blocks on the outside. On the inside you can use blocks or smaller squares. It only works for squares of size 2n x 2n (it might be possible for odd numbers too, but I didn't find a way immediatly), but I though it was pretty cool.

I like gliders

Everybody likes gliders because they are plain awesome and small. So I was toying around with some oscillators and I thought off this pattern period 15 oscillator (see picture below) and I decided to shoot some gliders at it. After a few tries the oscillator destroyed the glider but remained unharmed itself.

Since a Gosper Glider Gun is P30, I decided to turn the reaction I just discovered into an oscillator. This must be my lucky day, I started a blog and I stumbled onto a pretty cool reaction by accident, I bet all my future posts will look bleak in comparison.

Turns out the quality of the images here isn't too great, but you get the general idea. Perhaps I'll get myself some nice picture-site-profile for my Life-related images.

I'm a blogovirgin

First of all, this blog will be in English. That’s because I have my hopes up that there might be someone else then just me who wants to read this blog. The chances that that person understands English are quite a lot better than that he/she understands Dutch. Forgive me my mistakes, although I don’t really care if you don’t.

Then, this blog will be about Conway’s Game Of Life and my view on it. Don’t expect any introduction or whatever, I’ll just be talking about things that I found interesting when I was playing around with it. If you stumbled on this blog by accident and think that it sounds cool, just check it out on Wikipedia or something.

Last but not least, this is my first blog ever. I hope to keep posting on this thing, chances are I’ll give it up somewhere next week. Well, at least I’ve got something to do now.
